I had been doing my own family research for many years and had built up an extensive tree with over four hundred names in it. However, I could not find a birth certificate for my paternal grandfather and had no idea where he had been born. I had accumulated much info on my mother's side and my wife's family too. But my grandfather's side always drew blanks. I phoned Ian Hextall and gave him what little information I had on my father, grandfather and his parent's names from a marriage certificate between my grand-dad and gran. Within less than two weeks Ian had found my grandfather's birth certificate, along with a brother's and a sister's I had known nothing about. He also traced their ancestors back to Ireland and produced for me a well-produced folder containing loads of new information. Ian also found me living descendants of my grandfather's sister, living in Rhode Island in the USA. One of them had been searching for relations too for over thirty-five years! I was completely bowled over by Ian's results. It was amazing what he'd done for me in a short space of time. I thought what he charged me for his services was very reasonable when I consider the time and money I have spent on research which began around 1975, long before the internet was available. This last ten years or so I've spent a small fortune on Scotland's People website and others, along with visits to various registry offices too. Ian Hextall is very thorough in his work because he hates to be unsuccessful, which is part of his driving force. For anyone struggling with their research or for someone who wants their family tree done professionally from scratch, then I would certainly recommend Ian Hextall's services.

This is a link to a very interesting article written by Patrick Collington for The Telegraph news paper, You’ve seen the ads: ancestry tests that can link you to long-lost relatives and, with just a small saliva sample, map your roots. I took the test.
